In Europe, of all small and medium-sized businesses have been targeted by cyberattacks in the last two years, up 44 % globally in 2024. However, Europe is experiencing a skill lack of 883, 000 cybersecurity professionals. At a time when emerging technologies, like AI and quantum computing, are presenting new opportunities and threats to security, there’s a clear need for a different, competent and AI knowledgeable workforce. To support, we launched the Google. In the fall of 2023, the organization’s Cybersecurity Seminar system committed$ 15 million to expand access and options for security training.

Now, we are announcing 20+ colleges that have been selected to receive Google. support for expanding security knowledge to their campuses. We are also pleased to announce an expansion of the system to contain higher education institutions in the Middle East and Africa, in addition to Western universities.

, a nonprofit that is working on emerging technology and policy issues, will assist the universities in developing programs and curriculum that best address the security environment in their respective local communities. Collectively the colleges will allow thousands of students to practice hands-on security training through actions like internships, mentoring from cybersecurity professionals, and hackathons. As a part of the program, individuals will aim to help protect more than 3, 500 local community organizations across their populations — nonprofit, companies and more — from cyber attacks. Thanks to our relationship with , a leading EU-based GovTech business, universities will also have access to donated and completely security training.

Similar to our US , these seminars are a win-win situation because universities are enhancing cybersecurity resilience and resilience in their communities while providing training for the next generation of cybersecurity talent through valuable, practical job experience.
