Sophos, a world leader of modern protection solutions for defeating attacks recently released a new record,” Beyond the Hype: The Companies Real of AI for Cybersecurity”, which surveyed 400 IT officials on their use of AI in protection. Despite having 65 % of GenAI capabilities, 89 % of IT leaders are concerned that defects in GenAI cybersecurity tools could put their organization at risk, according to the survey.
Additionally, according to new Sophos X-Ops research, “Cybercriminals Still Not Fully on Board the AI Train ( Yet ),” there has been a minor but notable change in the way cybercriminals use AI. Sophos X-Ops discovered that, despite there still being skepticism about GenAI, some criminals are using it to manage mundane tasks like writing lengthy emails and analysing data after looking into some underground forums. It is being used in email and social executive tools by others.
The guiding principle for relational AI tools may be” trust but show,” as with many other things in life. We have never actually taught the machines to consider, we have just provided them the environment to speed up the control of large quantities of data”, said Chester Wisniewski, director, international field CTO, Sophos. The use of these tools to increase safety workloads is incredible, but it still necessitates the understanding and context of their individual overseers for this benefit to be realized.
IT leaders expressed concern about potential over-reliance on AI, with 87 % of respondents expressing concern about a resulting lack of cybersecurity accountability because some forms of AI is embedded in the cybersecurity infrastructure of 98 % of the companies surveyed.
GenAI and Reducing Burnout
Different-sized businesses expressed distinct priorities for utilizing GenAI. While large companies ( those with more than 1, 000 people ) are prioritizing improved protection, respondents with 50-99 workers rated reducing burnout as their top desired benefit from GenAI equipment. However, complicating issues, 84 % of the frontrunners surveyed said they were concerned about stress to reduce security expert headcount according to unrealistic expectations about AI’s abilities to change people operators, despite this, regardless of size of organization.

75 % of IT officials concur that GenAI’s costs in security products are challenging to quantify.
Companies Are Relying on GenAI Savings: While 80 % of IT leaders think GenAI will significantly raise the cost of cybersecurity tools, the majority of businesses think GenAI offers a solution to lower overall cybersecurity expenditures, with 87 % of respondents saying GenAI’s savings will help to offset the fees.
