- Taiwan has outlawed federal use of DeepSeek.
- According to Taiwan’s Ministry of Digital Affairs, the tech “endangers regional information protection.”
- Next week, the Chinese AI agency’s R1 design shook the world with its arrival.
Taiwan has banned state companies from using , citing security concerns.
The Taiwanese Ministry of Digital Affairs warned in a statement released on Friday that the Chinese company’s technologies should not be used by public sector workers and critical infrastructure facilities because “its procedure involves cross-border distribution and data leak” and “endangers regional data security.”
In January, Chinese AI company DeepSeek unveiled a new flagship AI type called R1, which it claims costs less than US models like OpenAI’s o1.
Businesses were shocked when it arrived, and AI stocks dropped last week as a result.
However, the business is now dealing with legal issues in some nations.
The Italian Data Protection Authority ( also known as Garante ) announced on Thursday that it had blocked access to the DeepSeek app to safeguard Italian users ‘ data.
Garante claimed the decision was made because it was angry with DeepSeek’s response to a question about how personal data is used in the app.
The businesses stated in a statement that they do not work in Italy and that German law does not apply to them, in contrast to what the Authority had discovered.
Ireland’s Data Protection Commission officially stated earlier this week that it had written to DeepSeek for more details regarding how it handles data from European people.
In the UK, Feryal Clark, the AI minister, issued a caution to American citizens thinking of using DeepSeek.
In an interview with , Clark stated that “it is ultimately a personal decision for persons, whether they decide to get it or not. ” My advice is to make sure that if people are downloading it, they are aware of the potential risks and are knowledgeable about how their information will be used.”
DeepSeek, which began as an AI side job for Chinese businessman , was founded in 2023.
