” AI is becoming a weapon of choice for scammers. It enables them to build more complex attacks, making hacking, malware, and propaganda harder to detect”, said Raymond Almanon, senior security expert at Trend Micro.
AI’s part in cybercrime
Ransomware attacks previous year became more frequent, utilizing vulnerable credentials and surveillance gaps in sky environments and business networks. In 2025, according to Trend Micro, cybercriminals may use AI to increase the scale and implement these threats. Tools like deepfake-powered schemes and AI-generated phishing campaigns will become more prevalent.
Cybercriminals will also target AI systems themselves, potentially hijacking autonomous agents, stealing sensitive data, or launching AI-powered denial-of-service ( DDoS ) attacks. ” Companies need to check AI-driven operations carefully, ensuring their AI systems are secure and protected from possible hijacking”, Almanon said.
Trend Micro warns that supply chains and cloud environments will increasingly be targeted by advanced persistent threat ( APT ) organizations. These attackers may exploit vulnerabilities in public-facing servers, electric vehicles, and technology relationships to infiltrate systems. The “bring your own vulnerable driver” ( BYOVD ) technique, in which cybercriminals use outdated or insecure drivers to bypass security measures, is a growing concern.
” Supply stores are a vital part of business operations, but they also introduce fresh vulnerabilities”, Almanon said. Companies are required to apply multi-layered threats and keep an eye on suspicious activity in their cloud conditions.
Ransomware
Assailants are constantly developing their methods to avoid recognition, making ransomware a significant threat. AI is being employed to produce more potent malware, making it more difficult for conventional surveillance software to find diseases.
The industries most affected by ransom in the Philippines include technology, healthcare, government, education, and manufacturing.
